Day 2: Friday, August 14
Enjoy a morning of guided meditation with Dr. Renee. In the late afternoon we will focus on Salvador’s electrifying African Influence with a 4-hour City Tour! Afrotourism guide Nilzete and I will take you to the heart of the African diaspora in Brazil. By taking the Lacerda Elevator (Elevador Lacerda), a public urban elevator connecting the lower city (Cidade Baixa) to the upper city; we will continue to the older Historical Center of Salvador, the Pelourinho area. You will be led to an enlightened walk beyond the history of slavery. Brazil was the last country to abolish slavery, and it has the largest black population outside Africa, did you know that? Despite this part of the history, this experience highlights the immense contribution of Africans to Brazilian society with joy. Take notes, ask as much information as you want, because this is about our own history! On the way you'll have the chance to take beautiful and instagramable photos! KEEP IN MIND This is mostly a walking tour, but even though the distance from one point to another isn't that far, it's recommended to wear comfortable shoes.
Day 3: Saturday, August 15
Boa Morte Festival The Boa Morte Festival (the name, meaning “good death”, refers to a proper passage from the material to the spiritual world). It is perhaps the most important festival in the African Heritage. This cultural immersion is truly an empowering experience.
